1955 Training Camp

By slowtospeak

Hello, darkness, my old friend. My usual training camp luck is back.

1.4 FS Christopher Stein Vol: 6 +8/-1 Now 47/80

I traded up for one of two other players, neither of which I got. He's a big improvement over what I have, but he's not the one I wanted.

1.32 QB Nicholas Moore Vol: 14 +12/+0 Now 44/67

The AI got fixated on, "I need a quarterback." Sure, but I didn't need this quarterback. Serves me right for having a life.

2.32 CB Charles Gatto Vol: 40 +7/+1 Now 41/65

Not a miracle, but he's a solid guy. He'll be a welcome addition to my depth at this position.

3.24 WR Dennis Thomas Vol: 50 +4/-3 Now 37/60

He took a hit to his already-suspect Route Running rating. I'm not sure how useful he'll be, except as a kick returner. It's probably a good thing I had a backup plan, though the backup plan was not very good.

3.32 SLB Marcus Allan Vol: 90 +2/-9 Now 30/54

Ugh. He's fast but not much else. Yeah, I'll be scouring the waiver wire.

4.21 WR James Burns Vol: 60 +3/-3 Now 37/62

I was surprised this guy was still around. Everybody else was right about him, but not that right. I'll take him.

4.29 C Albert Hicks Vol: 48 +2/+2 Now 45/76

He's buried on the depth chart, but the players ahead of him are getting pretty old. He'll be needed, soon enough.

4.32 CB Herman Jones Vol: 84 +4/-7 Now 24/41

This mid-round flyer didn't work at all. I really regret paying him a bonus, but I'd be glad if he worked out.

5.32 TE Paul Rossiter Vol: 34 +5/-2 Now 37/54

Looks like I'll need that last-minute free agent backup after all.

7.32 WR Nelson Sears Vol: 64 +1/-2 Now 30/46

Dennis Thomas' insurance policy ended up insuring Dennis Thomas.

a pretty rough one for shock as well, had 8 draftees and 2 undrafted rookies, and only had 3 boom up whilst 7 busted.

william brown 1#2 WR +13 -3 got a decent boost but his futuire potential has started closing in,should still be my #1 wr and a very good player but if this trend continues the next couple of years he wont make elite player

leonard michels 2#21 C +5 -6 another player heading down bust path still good enough to challenge for starting spot ,but another player destined to not reach his potential

aaron stanley 2#22 FS +4-16 wow massive drop in future ability and another player thats gonna under achieve, first 3 picks 3 busts :(

andrew hoffer 3#2 RB +8+7 at last a player booms and by default should become backfield starter

gary blue 4#1 RE +16+8 now we are cooking massive improvements at our weakest position, funny training camp our 3 best players have busted now 2 mid round picks have boomed

joseph forshee 5#2 WR +13 +5 another boom from mid round pick, forshee could start opposite brown, should stop draft here 3 busts 3 booms

paul ewing 6#1 WR 0 -12 im afraid if i had enough quality this young man would get sent to free agency,he will just take up a roster spot until i can improve the roster

bruce croft 7#2 MLB 0 -22 about as bad as it can get massive bust brought in as special teamer or depth, dont think hes even worthy of being waterboy

joseph smith undrafted LT +6-2 brought in to challenge for back up spots on line and failed to impress, another bust

thomas sullivan undrafted LT +7-5 like smith brought in as depth and flattered to deceive7th bust from this draft class

in recap 3 mid picks boomed and will start, couple of early picks regressed but should be good enough to challenge, the rest busted and are surplus to requirements but will probably keep roster spots due to lack of talent available very disheartening and average draft class

1.18 WR Mark Robinson +14/+1 69/87
2.19 WR Jeffrey Cleary +6/-10 42/70
3.18 WR Davis Adkins +4/-6 41/73
3.30 TE Tanner Im +6/+3 41/74

Robinson will show value this season. Most of my action was in FA and trades. Lots of new Voodoo, lots of dead wood still to cut.

Biggest disappointment, QB Billie Davis. If Billie had kept his maniacally booming progression, he could have been a league-leading QB in about 4 more seasons. It's hard to tell without the graphs, but it looks like the curve flattened far short of that goal.

One gained 10...one lost 21...everyone else went down 2.

Thrillsville.

Given my massive churn of players, FA recruiting will only cover draft as it'll be too long and boring otherwise. My weightings rather than default ratings used.

Round 1.21 Paul Tompkins C - Vol 22 61/88 +7/+1

Should be cornerstone of IOL for a long time.

Round 2.5 Thomas Ros LG - Vol 30 46/76 +5/-5

Bit of an upsetting decline, but it is what it is.

Round 3.4 Mark Parker LT - Vol 36 46/79 +3/-2

Brought in to start as LT, should stabilise into solid O line player even as depth long term.

Round 4.5 Juan Rivera CB - Vol 100 39/56 0/-13

Bigger bust than your average female porn star.

Round 5.4 Anthony Burr CB - Vol 40 43/62 +5/-2

Mildly disappointing decline but should be depth in secondary

Round 6.5 Patrick Dobbs FS - Vol 90 40/54 +7/+1

Bit of a project this one, converting from DE.

Round 7.4 Kevin Disney CB - Vol 32 39/65 +10/+2

Nice little boost here, depth in secondary

Overall...

Planned to really build O line this draft, RNG gods have crapped all over that. Nice C, nice depth at worst rest of O line picks - needed to get younger so a mixed bag in that plan.

Rest of draft focused on secondary, again some depth with a massive disappointment.

I unexpectedly had a great draft.

Macial would actually be 83 as a DE too, so I'm overloaded on defensive linemen and put Stephenson on the trading block.

Can't complain, but would have loved my top WR not to bust
